When did cycling first become a part of your life?

Being Dutch, it's practically a requirement to start cycling before you even know how to walk. My parents got me a small BMX as a kid, followed by a road bike, and it's been a way of life ever since.

Could you share a bit of your story with Café du Cycliste?

I started working with Café du Cycliste as the store manager in Mallorca in February 2024. As a cyclist, and with a love for cycling apparel, I obviously had followed the brand for quite a few years already and the boutique store in Palma de Mallorca is beautifully located in the old city centre.

If you had to pick just one place, where would you say is the best destination for a bike ride?

I mean, if I just had to pick one place, I'd say Mallorca ticks all the boxes for me. The coastal roads keep amazing me every time I ride on them. I love to take a jump in the sea after a warm summer ride, and winters are mild.

Could you share an unforgettable experience or memory you’ve had of a Café du Cycliste ride or event?

We recently did a 140km gravel race with friends on vintage mountain bikes, dressed in Café du Cycliste kit. At multiple points we rode through water higher than our hubs, and our brakes stopped working, but we had so much fun together. Also, our weekly rides are always a very nice way of meeting new and old friends. Always a good pace, a lovely group and people that all share the same passion for cycling.

In your opinion, what sets Café du Cycliste apart from other cycling brands out there?

The unique designs are what make Café du Cycliste for me. We do things differently. I love that. Combined with our sustainability goals, that’s what really makes us stand out from the crowd.

You must have seen many products come and go. Is there one in particular that holds a special place in your heart?

The merino Marina jersey. It was my first ever Café du Cycliste jersey and I fell in love with the fit and fabric. It’s a great all-round jersey for spring and autumn riding. I'd also pick the Sibille gilet. An amazing packable, wind-blocking layer for cold(er)-weather riding.

What would you say to someone who is just discovering Café du Cycliste for the first time?

“Welcome to the brand!” Cafe du Cycliste, for me, is where performance meets style. The brand breathes cycling and the outdoors and combines adventure with elegance. Come and find our flagship store in the beautiful old city centre of Palma de Mallorca, Plaça del Rosari 5. Try to make sure you'll join us for a ride. Early 2025, we'll also have road bikes available for rent.
