BLAZING A TRAIL.

Run the mountains with Café du Cycliste and Le Pilgrimage!

For two years now, the organisers of Le Pilgrimage have been sending cyclists on a gravel adventure under the care of St Roch, the patron saint of pilgrims, from their chalet in the Écrins massif in the French Alps.
Four days exploring the best gravel tracks and high, remote passes this border area has to offer, returning to the chalet for food and good company – with one night spent out on the trails. It’s one of our favourite partner events, taking place as it does just a few mountain passes away from our HQ in Nice. Now, Le Pilgrimage has launched a trail run, taking place this July.

As with the gravel event, Le Pilgrimage Trail isn’t a race against the clock, but more of a personal challenge, with participants being entirely self-sufficient as they navigate the ridges and valleys of these breathtakingly beautiful high mountains. Participants will also benefit from special surprises at the checkpoints as they stamp their pilgrim’s cards.

With a total distance of around 100 kilometres over the four days, and 10,000 metres or so of elevation gain, it’s going to be a real challenge, with runners returning to base camp to share stories each evening over homemade food. The last leg, however, is long enough to require a night in a mountain refuge, adding a little more Forever Outsiders spirit to the proceedings.

As the organisers, say: “Whether on two wheels or two feet, Le Pilgrimage is about embracing the unknown, pushing beyond your limits and connecting with fellow pilgrims who share the same thirst for adventure. The mountains don’t care about the way you travel; they reward those who wander, endure and seek.”
