WINGS OF THE OCEAN.

Our 1% for the Planet partner moors up in Nice port, spreading a message of environmental awareness.

With the third UN Ocean Conference (UNOC) taking place in Nice, the old port – where our flagship store is located – is a hive of activity. And among the yachts and the ferries, there’s a distinguished visitor, a three-masted 42-metre-long sailing ship belonging to Wings of the Ocean, an oceangoing campaign organisation that we support via our 1% for the Planet pledge.

Wings of the Ocean cleans up our seas, collecting plastics from the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, as well as researching marine biodiversity and raising awareness among the general population of the fragile ecosystems off our coasts. Since 2018, it has retrieved over 150 tons of waste from our waters.

The Kraken has been in a dry dock since 2022 and has been completely refitted, and has a new onboard science lab for testing. The organisation also runs another ship, the Scylla, and, thanks to its particular focus on sea lagoons and bays, has permanent missions in the Étang de Thau and the Bassin d'Arcachon.

On 5 June the Wings of the Ocean crew came to the Café du Cycliste store and hold a round table, explaining its mission to the audience.

As UNOC3 continues, we want to put a megaphone on Wings of the Ocean and its work because to look after our seas, the job begins on land. To find out more about Wings of the Ocean, check out its website.
